OVERVIEW

HOW IT WORKS WITH THE BODY

Rose is one of the best for the emotional heart. Herbalist Rebecca Altman says “Wild rose softens the areas that we tense to protect ourselves, unraveling emotional tension patterns that get locked in the body. Rose naturally works in places where 'flow' is impeded. Rose unwinds the stuck-ness that is often rooted in old grief, old trauma.” It’s often used in cases of heartache and heartbreak.

Rose petals are considered an astringent, which means it tightens and tones tissues. They are beneficial for the body when there is too much laxity in tissues, such as lax gums causing loose teeth, canker sores, or lax intestinal tissues from chronic illness, or even digestive issues like diarrhea.

Rose is packed with nutrients: vitamins B, C, K, and E, flavonoids, zinc, phytonutrients and antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, and more. The polyphenols in rose tea have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cognitive diseases.

Roses anti-inflammatory properties are comparative to asprin and ibuprofen, and may help with arthritis and menstrual cramping.

The energy of rose is cooling, meaning it cools us down and removing excess “heat” or stagnation within the body.

It’s calming and relaxing for the nervous system and has a gentle way of relieving tension and pain.

Rose helps reduce the risk of heart disease.

Herbalist Organic Olivia says these beautiful words about rose: “Rose promotes not only the healthy, normal flow of blood and balance of hormones, but a healthy expression, processing, and release of emotions as well. She helps to grant us the ability to keep flowing and moving forward, just as she encourages our blood and Qi to move with vigor and discernment. Rose allows one to be open and resilient; to develop perspective around our grief and pain so that one may be able to find courage, meaning, and connection through the madness. Rose helps us to be gentle with ourselves and slow down so that we may see and feel what we’ve been avoiding, and finally step forward into a realm of possibility that is only available through presence and intimacy with oneself, others, and life in general.”

For the skin: Topically, rose is beneficial in tissue regeneration for conditions such as burns, facial wrinkles, and scars. It increases cellular turnover, reduces redness and hyperpigmentation, soothes dry + irritated skin, helps to heal acne, reduces signs of aging and protects the skin against future damage.
