OVERVIEW
Wormwood, one of the most bitter tastes you’ll ever experience, much like the name states, is a potent & powerful anti-parasitic herb. Like it’s latin name, it’s actually the plant from which the drink absinthe is made. In the 19th-early 20th century, it was a favored drink in the bars and clubs and loved by many artists and writers. Vermouth is also a liquor that was originally flavored with extracts from this herb.
Wormwood is a very old herbal remedy that has been employed for centuries for many different ailments in humans and animals, but also served as an insect repellant for moths and fleas.
HOW IT WORKS WITH THE BODY
Wormwood kills and drives away various types of parasites/intestinal worms, but especially roundworm, Ascaris lumbricoides, and pinworm. Microscopic analysis has determined that a compound in this plant works by destroying various and specific membranes of parasites, causing them to starve to death eventually.
A cure for Malaria; clinical studies have demonstrated a 100% cure rate in 485 cases of tertian malaria and a 92.7% cure rate in 105 cases of subtertian cerebral malaria. It may also be a valuable alternative for chloroquine, which is given as a preventative to travelers going abroad.
As a digestive and liver ally, it promotes appetite and bile secretions as well as absorption of nutrients, along with toning the stomach and moving gas through the intestines and out the body.
Constituents in wormwood have anti-tumor properties, meaning it has the ability to inhibit the growth of tumors and metastasis; studies have shown that it impedes several types of cancers including breast, small lung, colon, leukemia, renal, and more.
Wormwood helps to purify the body, particularly the blood.
It is known to reduce fevers by stimulating sweating to cool the body down and may also treat infections.
It can be used topically for wounds, skin ulcers, blemishes and insect bites, can act as a local anesthetic + makes a good liniment to relieve pain from inflammation such as bruises, sprains, back pain, and rheumatism. Internally, it is also known to reduce menstrual or arthritis pain.
CAUTIONS
Wormwood can be toxic in high amounts, so it is important to dose properly and stay within the recommended amount.
It’s best to use wormwood for no longer than 4-6 weeks at a time. It is not an ideal long term tonic.
Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
